DETAILS
Meet Bluestreak, a Bluegrass Band from PEI, Canada. The group was formed in January 2004 and shortly after, they released their first recording, First Impression. Both this album and their next, Second Nature, have won multiple Music PEI and ECMA awards and nominations. All of the band’s recordings feature original music, something they are very proud of. They are presently planning the release of a third CD called Rounding Third. Bluestreak has had different members over the years, but the three founding musicians are Larry Campbell, Roger Wightman and David Blue.
Larry, fearless band leader, provides lead vocals and plays guitar and mandolin. He is also one of the main songwriters of the group and is well known for his lovely voice and humble stage presence.
Roger Wightman on banjo is a baritone vocalist and was one of the founding members of the bluegrass band, Out of The Blue. He also writes many of the band’s original songs.
Bass player David Blue has the most bluegrass experience, having performed with his parents from age 11 until 1989 in their band, Blades of Grass. The bass he plays, was owned by Don Messer’s member, Duke Nielson and was made in Germany in 1708.
New to the group are Peter Richards and Marcella Richard. Many Islanders know Peter from the arts & culture publication he founded called, The Buzz, but he is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. He mostly plays dobro with Bluestreak.
Marcella was raised in one of the Evangeline’s multi-talented musical families. She has recorded three francophone albums which feature songs written by artists from the Maritimes and Louisiana as well as some of her own compositions. Marcella has been involved in music for many years and has performed throughout Canada, the United States and France. She is well-known for her Acadian and country songs.
